Fraction Buddy works with whole numbers, fractions and mixed numbers and gives you the exact answer — no rounding. Enter each term as a whole number plus a fraction (a numerator over a denominator), pick +, −, × or ÷ between the rows, and read the result as a mixed number, an improper fraction and a decimal at the same time.

How to use it

Type a whole number on the left and a fraction on the right of each row. Leave the whole box empty for a plain fraction, or leave the fraction empty for a plain whole number. Tap an operator between two rows to choose how they combine, and tap Add term for more rows (empty rows are ignored). On a phone every box opens the number pad, tapping a box selects its value so you can type straight over it, and the keypad's Next key moves to the following box.

Order of operations

Multiplication and division are worked out before addition and subtraction, left to right — the same rule used in school math. So ½ + ⅓ × ¾ is ½ + ¼ = ¾. Dividing by zero is flagged on the row that causes it.

Why the answers are exact

Each fraction is stored as whole-number top and bottom values and combined with integer arithmetic, then reduced to lowest terms. That is why one third plus one third reads as two thirds instead of 0.667. The decimal line shows a leading approximately sign when a value cannot be written exactly with a few decimal places.
